Among the standout cars were an awesome Plymouth Fury hardtop, a mean-looking lime-green 1971 Dodge A-100 pickup truck, a beautiful vintage Bentley, a rare VW Caddy pickup and a De Tomaso Pantera.
At the end of the evening the awards were given to Art Dammers and his 2006 Harley Super Glide,
the 2007 Dodge Daytona of the NEMC’s Tom D'Andrea,
Bob Maio’s beautiful 1965 Plymouth Belvedere,
Bryan and Jill Tredo’s 1968 Chevy Camaro,
and Tim Kramer’s 1964 Chevy El Camino.
Cruisin's Star Car Monday’s star car takes things way down to another level as we introduce Windsor, CT resident Dominic and his 1994 Chevy Blazer lowrider.
The Blazer has been on Cruisin’s hit list for a while after first seeing it scraping the asphalt at a Panera Bread cruise in Newington. We managed to miss Dominic that night, and at a later visit to a Ralphs Rapid Transit Burger King cruise night, but this time he could not escape!
Dominic has owned and worked on the car for eight years and, like all custom projects, the work is ongoing and never ending as details are modified and perfected.
When he took possession of the Chevy the doors were rotted out, it had 31-inch diameter tires on it, the motor was knocking and the body was painted maroon. Very different to what we see now!
After sorting the bodywork, Dominic fitted a brand-new crate motor and gave it a tweak here and there in the shape of a mild cam, advanced timing and modified air intake. The whole front end is now new and the only original part of the car is the transmission. The Blazer’s distinctive ‘in the weeds’ look is courtesy of an air-suspension system.
A friend of Dominic’s recommended Welles Eurobodies in Windsor Locks, CT (http://www.welleseurobodies.com/) after having his truck painted there. Welles sprayed the Blazer in a two-tone scheme of Candy orange and Orion silver. The graphic stripe that separates the two colors on the body is a combination of three designs.
Future plans include a possible reworking of the interior, fitting a sliding ragtop, different wheels and whatever else that comes to mind!
