CSRA Hammonasset State Park Car Show, October 2nd, 2010
On Sunday, October 2nd Kathy and I took a ride down to the shoreline on a beautiful Fall day for the Connecticut Street Rod Association (CSRA) Hammonasset State Park Car Show. The show featured street rods, antiques, trucks, show cars and bikes. As October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, all show proceeds were to be given to the Connecticut Women's Breast Health Initiative.
The show site was situated within walking distance of the beach, making it a superb place to hold a show. When we arrived, the event was in full swing with a large turnout of vehicles in attendance. As we photographed the rows of vehicles, we saw plenty of old friends. After exchanging greetings with Lise, Armand and Danielle Couture, we ran into one of the show’s organizers, Gil. We’ve met Gil many times throughout 2010. He also has the distinction of being the proud owner of the first Cruisin’ Photography Blog Star Car back in April with his superb Dodge A-100 pickup truck. Gil told us how many of the CSRA guys had been at the site since the crack of dawn to prepare for the show. We also made some new friends in Ted Jannetty from Jannetty Racing who was there with his 700+bhp Chevelle wagon and Scott BarrĂ© the owner/driver of the "Mighty Mouse" Datsun 240Z dragster.
As we filled our memory cards with images of the high-quality vehicles in attendance, the peace and quiet of a shoreline car show was shattered when a thunderous sound assaulted the ears. Looking like a tractor from hell with its 66-inch diameter rear tires, the Mr. No Respect modified tractor was being fired up. The tractor’s three fuel-injected, Mooneyham supercharged, methanol-fueled, big-block 427ci Chevy V8 engines sounded awesome. Within seconds a large crowd gathered around the tractor, but moved back when the engines were given a few hundred revs. It was truly an incredible sound. All too soon, the engine was cut and after the crowd stopped cheering and clapping, the silence returned!
We enjoyed our trip to the show and enjoyed our walk on the beach afterwards even more. Well done CSRA, you put on a great show for a very worthy cause.
