Hot Rod and Kustom Fall Out IV

After a couple of late date changes due to bad weather, Hot Rod and Kustom Fall Out IV was held on Sunday. Glorious Fall sunshine, a really good setting, good live music and plenty of top-notch cars all combined to make this a superb end-of-season event.

The event is billed as being all about true-blue hot rodding and the preservation of its roots. There was no billet-machined aluminium or exotic metals, no modern hi-tech rods and definitely no trailer queens! The show certainly lived up its advertising with some great examples of 'old-school' hot rodding in attendance.

Mustang Magic

Dave and I spent a perfect fall afternoon – his first in the USA – at the LMMC-CT Car Show held at Hoffman Ford of East Hartford.

Crisp weather and a bounty of Mustangs was the order of the day. We got up close and personal with a Mustang Shelby GT 500 KR (picture 1) – truly a King of the Road. We also had the pleasure of meeting the http://www.newyorkmustangs.com/ contingent (pics 2 and 3). A late 60s blue GT350 fastback drew a lot of looks, as did a red 2004 Supercharged Mach 1.

The cars were works of art under the hood as well (picture 4), and a variety of license plates caught our eye - WILDGT, WLDPNY, GTPONY, PONYGT, XRATED, WHOA06, QWIKHUH, PRPLMACH and HANGON.

While this was a Mustang Show, a 1946 mint-condition Lincoln was a show stealer. The Lincoln’s owner showed us the hydraulic windows, push button doors and vacuum windshield wipers, before starting the smooth V-12.

More Weekend Wheels!

On Friday evening Kathy and I took a visit to the final Tri Town Cruizers Car Show of 2009. A few people had told us that it was always a good turnout of cars and we were not disappointed. There were probably around 70 cars in attendance with some really interesting models among them. My favourite was the excellent Ford pick-up truck shown here. It was a shame that we finally got there on the last night but rest assured we will be back in 2010!

On Saturday we took a leisurely drive to the shoreline to the beautiful town of Madison for the British Cars On The Green show. What a treat awaited us with so many Triumph, MG, Austin Healey and Jaguar cars to enjoy in the warm autumn sunshine. It seemed a little odd for me to be seeing cars that I have seen so many times when back in England, but it was cool to talk to a few owners about how I had seen them racing over the years and also how I used to live just 12 miles away from where these fabulous cars were originally built. A real standout for both of us was the superb Triumph TR3 pictured above.

After we left Madison we managed to squeeze in a walk on Meigs Point Beach for a short while before driving to Bristol for the Bristol Car Club’s Saturday Night Cruise. This is show that we always enjoy. There were some great cars on show as always, but for me the highlight was not one but two new 2010 Chevrolet Camaros (pictured), what a brute this car is and how nice it was to actually be able to photograph one with the hood down and not surrounded by onlookers!

Weekend Wheels

This has been a weekend of excellent car shows.
On Friday it was a trip to Hooters in Wethersfield for the 'Best Of The Best' show. There was a superb turnout and a great variety of cars, what a really enjoyable evening.

On Saturday it was the Charter Oak Firebirds Panera Bread cruise, again there was a superb selection of cars including the awseome custom pictured above. The weather was great with a low setting sun sun causing harsh shadows - us photographers are never happy!

After Panera it was a short ride up the road to the MOPAR Club's Burger King Drive In, I always enjoy this show under the parking-lot lights. Again some superb cars were in attendance.

Sunday was a trip to Enfield for the 1st Annual Fall Mopar Car and Truck Show held at Artioli Dodge. What a fabulous show this turned out to be. I was amazed to see not one, but two Plymouth Road Runner Superbirds in attendance. Before yesterday I had never seen one in the flesh so to see two was a real thrill.
Overall it has been a great weekend, some super cars and some great people, here's to many more weekends like this!

Chasing The Cruises!

Monday September 14th should have been visits to car cruises in Southington and Plainville, however, you cannot believe all that you read on the Internet and two empty car parks awaited our attention… Thanks guys.
Thankfully there were other cruises in the area so we drove to Guido’s Drive In, in Manchester, CT, and actually found something! While not a large cruise there were some great cars on show at a nice setting.
We should have quit while we were ahead, but it was decided to travel down to Meriden for another cruise night and, once more, a dark and empty car park was the result…
Thanks Guido’s you saved a wasted night!

Super Sunday

This past Sunday (September 13th) was the 30th Annual Mustang Power Show held at Mustangs Unlimited in Manchester, CT. The weather was superb and the turnout of cars was even better with Ford Mustangs as far as the eye could see. With models covering all the eras of this classic car it was a must-attend event for any self-respecting petrol head. The show, sponsored by the Mustang Car Club of New England, was a credit to the group.

Magic Mallory!

What a great day.
Yesterday was my last visit to Mallory Park for the foreseeable future and it was a visit to remember. The last race that I saw before leaving was a cracker and it was won by Dane Oliver (bike 32) from Revolution Racing! It was a special moment to see a bike carrying the artwork for my website win my last race at the Park.
Thanks guys, it has been a blast working with you all.
The shocks began as soon as I arrived - the sun was shining! Surely this could not last? But it did. The racing was excellent and I got some great photographs. Hell I even had a beer!

Not quite sure when the next update will be to the blog as I have some very busy and enjoyable times ahead in the next few weeks.

Rainy RIAT!

Sunday July 19th found me visiting the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford in Gloucestershire with my good friend John Hall. It has to be said that the only thing that was fair all day was the name of the venue! The weather, like a true British summer, was dreadful with strong winds and plenty of rain. The flying as always was top drawer and made up for the leaden skies. Highlights were the excellent Italian Frecce Tricolori and finally seeing the Avro Vulcan fly. It may have been from the dry sanctuary of the car where I viewed from, but it was still an incredible sight to see this mighty plane airborne again. After the disasterous rain-outs on both days at last years event, the organisers sorted their act out with car parking on tarmac and it made a great difference, it even alleviated the traditional RIAT traffic jams. Sadly the weather was too much and we did not get to see the Red Arrows display. It is so annoying that planning a day out in a British summer means having to don waterproofs all the time! Even more galling was hearing reports of visitors to the event on the Saturday coming away with sunburn...

This coming weekend finds me at Mallory Park for my last outing with Team Revolution before I take some time out for some major changes to the photographic career - stay tuned all will be revealed!

Sunday Revolution!

Another excellent day of racing with the lads from Revolution Racing at Mallory Park today. More solid placings throughout the massed ranks of Olly, Ryan and Dane topped off with more hot weather (?). Though having seen the lads after a few of the races they certainly weren't enjoying the summer sunshine as much as the spectators.
The team picked up several podiums including Olly and Dane taking second and third respectively in one of the Roadstocks races. Dane put in some great rides with a second, a third, a fourth and two fifth places in his five rides. Olly took a second and a third, while Ryan was consistently in the top ten in his outings, well done guys!
Many thanks go out to my good friend Mike Calvert for taking the team picture shown here, the rogue's gallery reads from left to right: Ryan Oliver (600cc Suzuki), Dane Oliver (600cc Yamaha), myself (unarmed!) and Arthur (Olly) Oliver (750cc Suzuki). The action shot shows Dane storming through the field on his way to another great placing for the team.
Work constraints permitting look out for the gallery of pictures from the event on my website very soon.

Life's A Drag!

I had a great day yesterday at Shakey County Raceway near Stratford on Avon, for the 31st Annual Gary's Picnic/Yank's Weekend.
Glorious sunshine (even got a little sunburnt!), great cars and some superb on-track action. As usual at events like these the car park carried as many interesting cars as the track did!
Look out for the gallery on my website soon.

Revolution Racing

What a good day for Revolution Racing!
Some good placings were followed up by Olly winning the second Roadstocks race. Congratulations to all concerned at Mallory Park today. The weather was awful but the on-track action more than made up for it.
The bikes looked as good as always and is was great to see my website artwork on them as the shots of the team show.

Back To Blighty!

After a great trip to the States I now have four new galleries of shots in the US Events section for some of the car shows that I attended. To the new friends that I made out there allow me to wish you all the best for the future and thanks for your warmth and friendliness.
Tomorrow sees the next round of the EMRA bike racing series at Mallory Park. I will be working with my team from Revolution Racing as they go in search of more good results following thier great showings at the previous round held over Easter. This meeting will be particularly special as the bikes will be carrying my website artwork for the first time. Should be good!
