Tri Town Cruzers, April 30th, 2010

Following the pizza oven shoot (see previous blog entry ‘The Fire Within’) Cruisin’ Photography took a Friday evening trip to Vernon for the Tri Town Cruzers car club’s 2010 season-opening show.

When Kathy and I arrived there was already a large gathering of vehicles present. After stopping for a chat with our friend, show board/business card designer Jeff Strong from Strong Keepsake Images (http://www.strongkeepsakeimages.com/) we took in the ever-growing number of attendees.

There was definitely something for everyone on display. Alongside the customary Mustangs, Camaros, Chevelles, Novas et al, there were some rarities - the highlights being a pair of Ford Pintos, a superb Chrysler New Yorker and, wait for it, a gull-wing door Subaru Brat!

As usual at this event, there was a great atmosphere. It will not be long before we return for another enjoyable evening.

Cruisin’s Star Car

This was not an easy decision but one car, in particular, stood out for us – Dwight and Pauline Winter’s 1932 Ford Custom Roadster. The car is used regularly for shows, and says Dwight: “It’s a great driver that we show and enjoy.”

Built by J2 Speed and Custom in Omaha, Nebraska the roadster is known as ZDUCE. The car has a PPG custom candy-red zipper-styled body design and is powered by a 383ci Chevy stroker engine, with a one-of-a-kind engine cover, backed up with a Turbo 350 transmission.

The front suspension is a chrome drop axle with a Ford nine-inch axle with a coil-over shock absorber set-up and polished Willwood disc brakes. The underside of the car is also fully painted, polished and detailed.

The interior was designed and installed by the Recovery Room out of Plattsmouth, NE. It features one-off pedals, column drop, door openers, exhaust hangers, trunk and stereo enclosure and a custom dash and gauge cluster.

The car has amassed a large collection of awards, many of them from such prestigious events as the 20th Hot Rod Nationals, held at Indianapolis in June, 2008 where it was awarded the Best Bitchin’ title. The list also includes awards from shows in Syracuse, NY, Mohegan Sun (CT) and Rhinebeck, NY. ZDUCE was also featured in the March 2007 edition of Custom Rodder magazine.
