A Run To The Sun, July 3rd, 2010

On Saturday, July 3rd Kathy and I traveled to Mohegan Sun for the Elite Dreams Machines show. Having watched the television coverage on Cruisin New England a while back, we decided it was a must-see event for Cruisin’ Photography. As we arrived, our first impression was: “Where is it?” There were no signs to indicate where the rooftop show was being held! We took a tour around the complex and, purely by chance, we noticed cars with their hoods up on the top of a parking garage and guessed it was the show. Thankfully we guessed right. I may be going out on a limb here, but I’ll guess that there aren’t many car shows where you arrive by elevator!

The quality of the cars could not be denied; it’s just that there weren’t many of them. The pre-show ad stated that there was room for 125 cars. I’d estimate that around half of that number was in attendance. The standout for me was Massachusetts’ resident Dan Disco’s beautiful gold lowrider with its very special Edelbrock limited edition motor pushing out around 400 horses.

The hot sun bouncing off the asphalt became too much so we headed off to take in the ballroom part of the show and seek some respite in the air conditioning. Once again, sadly, there were no signs to indicate where the show was being held once we were inside the casino. We eventually found it after wandering aimlessly for a while and finding it by accident. Once inside, the friendly face of our friend, Kim Kerr, greeted us. Kim is the owner of “Mad Max,” the Aussie-built Ford Falcon that’s a regular visitor to Connecticut car shows and cruises. Kim had the car on display and we were lucky enough to see him win an award. There were some fabulous cars inside, including some I recognized from Rhinebeck the previous week. Overall, it was an enjoyable day, but we were left disappointed by the lack of directions and the less-than-capacity turnout on the rooftop.
